A CHRISTMAS CAROL – This Coming Week – December 10, 11,12 and 13, 2014

Please spread the word, and share this post – A CHRISTMAS CAROL is this coming week when Charles Dickens arrives in Walpole.

You can print this poster out for your collection or to post – click on this link

This is a benefit for local area food shelves.  Please attend and donate cash to help those less fortunate at this special time of year.  In the last six years our audiences have contributed over $20,ooo to help others.  Let’s continue giving in that fine spirit

The tradition will continue when the curtain will again rise for the Walpole Players’ Seventh Annual Production of Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL on December 10, 11, 12, and 13, 2014, in the Helen Miller Theater in the Walpole, New Hampshire Town Hall.  Having raised over $20,000 in cash donations to help feed those less fortunate in the past 6 years,  100% of the cash donations at the door again will benefit Our Place Drop-In Center and The Fall Mountain Food Shelf.

But the curtain almost did not rise this year.  Co-directors, Tara Sad and Ray Boas, were shocked when the usual throngs did not appear at the two evenings of auditions in early November. “We were lacking actors for ten speaking roles, and about to scrap this year’s production, which has become an area tradition,” Tara recounted, “when I said to Ray, ‘let’s send out an additional casting call.’ ”  So, Ray drafted a plea which was emailed to the players’ list and posted on-line.  The response was gratifying. Greg Villone, who was busy in a current Springfield, (VT) Community Player’s production, typified the response stating, “I was planning on taking a little break after this one but seeing how ACC is in danger of being cancelled I will gladly play Fred again.”  And so; thankfully, for those less fortunate, the show will go on.

Tickets to the 7 PM production on December 10,, 11, 12 and 13, 2014, are required because of limited space, and hold your seat until 6:45.  “No one has ever been turned away at the door,” Ray happily relates,  “but I have had to put up additional chairs to accommodate additional guests.”  The free tickets are available in Walpole at Real to Reel; Galloway Real Estate; Costume Ladies; Murray’s and Jake’s; and, in Bellows Falls, Vermont, at Village Square Booksellers. For any questions call Ray Boas 603 756-4545 or Tara Sad 603 756-4861.   A CHRISTMAS CAROL has been read and performed since 1843 — and since 2008 in Walpole.  Please mark your calendars to attend and be included in Walpole’s tradition.

SUMMER THEATER CAMP – Senior Class to Perform Friday, 18 July

You had better plan to attend the 3PM performance at the Walpole Town Hall on Friday, 18 July to see the cast of 24 “senior” theater campers perform an original play by Jim Skofield – X MARKS THE SPOT  (an international jewel-heist thriller set in Istanbul of the 1930’s).

The performance marks the completion of their two weeks of camp in the afternoons, and you will be amazed at the talent.  Just having watched yesterday’s rehearsal and then again watching (and taking almost 100 photographs) of today’s rehearsal I can say that I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the work and accomplishment of our young thespians.

Here is a gallery sampling of some of the images I took at today’s rehearsal.  Just click on any of them to open a slide show up.  And, if there are any that you would like the “raw” file for your own use, just let me know.  Please do plan on attending tomorrow to support our young actors and actresses, and to see the fine work that they have accomplished.

The first week of The Walpole Players 5th Annual Summer Theater Camp, under the astute leadership of Jim Skofield and Carolyn Norback, concluded July 11th with the “junior students” (entering second through fourth grades) presenting RUMPELSTILTSKIN to an audience of proud parents, siblings, grandparents and friends.  The performance was narrated by two assistant counselors who, having completed years of theater camp, have entered high school and are no longer eligible to be a camper, but using their learned skills have moved on to assist Jim and Carolyn in conducting the camp.

Eighty percent of this group had never ever before performed on stage, but that was in no way obvious with the skill in which they performed and projected their stage presence.  The “senior group” (students entering fifth through eighth grades) have two weeks of camp, and will be presenting their performance at the end of camp on July 18th.

Here is a selection of the fifty images taken at today’s performance by Ray Boas.  Click on any of the image below to open the “slide show” to see them in larger size.  If there is any image file that you would like to have to use in any way, just contact Ray, and he will be happy to send you any of the full size raw files for you to use.

Remember to join the group this coming Friday and cheer on our budding thespians.

A LONG WEEKEND IN NEW HAMPSHIRES – Images from the 21 June 2014 Performance

And here are images taken during the second performance on Saturday, June 21, 2014.  Again, PLEASE NOTE – these are unedited, not cropped, not adjusted for available light exposure, etc. etc.  All easy “fixes” in Photoshop or your photo editing software, but considering the number of images I did not tackle that to save time and get these posted.

Enjoy looking, download what you want, and edit as you wish.  If there is an image you really want “fixed” and are technically challenged (so to speak) I will be happy to provide a “fixed image” when I have time.  Feel free to use, give me credit if you wish, but not necessary, enjoy, yours, RAY

A LONG WEEKEND IN NEW HAMPSHIRE – Dress Rehearsal 18 June 2014

Here are some un-cropped, and unedited images I took during dress rehearsal on 18 June 2014.  You are welcome to copy whatever you want and crop and manipulate in your own photo imaging software.  To save time in getting them to you I did not crop or edit the images here (except for a few used in the previous post, and to send to the press).  A few minor adjustments to color and tones in Photoshop will work wonders.  If there is something you really would like cropped/improved, but just cannot do it yourself, email me and I will try to get it done for you.  If you wish to say I took the photo, that is fine, but not necessary.  Enjoy, yours, RAY

PS — shortly I will do a similar post with images I took during the performance on Saturday, June 21, and then ask Gail to email the entire cast that they are posted.  Click on any image below to open the “slide show” and you can download any image and then edit as you wish.

A LONG WEEKEND IN NEW HAMPSHIRE – June 20, 21, 26 and 28

Please help spread the word and we will “pack the house” the end of this month during:

Jim Baucom and Jenny Plante during a recent rehearsal

The Walpole Players’ production for Old Home Days 2014 is A LONG WEEKEND IN NEW HAMPSHIRE.  Performances will be Friday and Saturday June 20 and 21 the week before Old Home Days, and once the Old Home Days’ festivities begin the last week in June, the show will be held Thursday June 26 and Saturday June 28.  The curtain will rise at 7PM in the Helen Miller Theater on the second floor of Walpole’s Town Hall, Walpole, New Hampshire.

This original play was written by and is being directed by  “players” member Gail Golec. A comedy, in four-self contained acts, the play offers entertaining vignettes of country life in New Hampshire (maybe even Walpole).  Act I- Life in 4/4 Time, goes through the hectic life of a modern young family; Act II – The Funeral,  shows a family coming together after a funeral and sharing old stories; Act III -The Farmstand, explores the events surrounding an ordinary day at the local vegetable stand; and Act IV- The Lumberman, The Farmer and The Fisherman, is the dramatic recitation of an epic poem (with footnotes).

The cast of 27 people includes, besides the familiar Walpole Players, a number of new members joining The Walpole Players for the first time.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for under 12 years of age, and are available at Galloway Real Estate, Real to Reel Video, Murray’s, Costume Ladies, and Village Square Booksellers. For additional information call 603 756-4545.
