Readings on the Common will NOT happen this week and will remain on hiatus until after the Jeeves performance. So be ready to start up again on Sunday, July 18! And don’t forget to come see the performance on July 10!
The Walpole Players will be presenting a staged reading of Jeeves at Sea by Margaret Raether, adapted from the stories of P.G. Wodehouse, on Saturday, July 10, at 5:30 PM on the Walpole Town Common.
Set sail for laughter as Bertie Wooster (played by Tom Durnford) revels in life aboard the Vanderley yacht. Bertie is the pampered guest of the lively and fetching Lady Stella (Jenny Plante), accompanied, as always, by his peerless valet, Jeeves (Mike Delaney). If only Bertie’s pal Crumpet (Rebecca Saunders) hadn’t assaulted a prince! In the blink of an eye, Bertie is masquerading as a romance novelist, Crumpet is posing as his own long-lost twin, and a sinister foreign Count (Gina Richardson) is challenging Bertie to a duel over the misunderstood affections of Lady Stella’s companion Miss Pilbeam (Ruth Pratt). Will this madcap case of mistaken identities end in Bertie’s doom? Or worse, his marriage?? Have no fear! Jeeves will sort it all out.
We are asking audience members to support The Walpole Players with a suggested donation of $5 for adults, but any amount is greatly appreciated, and will help us keep the curtain up and lights on at the Helen Miller Theater!
Don’t forget to bring your choice of outdoor seating (lawn chair, blanket, etc.). For more information, please email WalpolePlayers@gmail.com, check our website TheWalpolePlayers.org, or call 603-756-2535.
All activities will take place rain or shine at the Bandstand, unless the weather is really atrocious, and then we can move inside Town Hall, second floor.
We will be rehearsing for Jeeves at Sea every Sunday at 2:00 PM. Only those people cast in or working on the show should come to these rehearsals.
Readings on the Common is continuing at least through July, at 4:00 PM every Sunday. Everyone is welcome! We are having a lot of fun reading a variety of plays (mostly comedies), and it’s proved a great way to find new material for performances during our regular season.
Have you ever wondered if you could act but never had the chance (or the nerve!) to try? Readings on the Common are the perfect way to find out! Please join us!
The Walpole Players will be presenting an outdoor staged reading of JEEVES AT SEA on Saturday, July 10.

Readings on the Common are returning! Beginning Sunday, May 2, at 4:00 PM, the Walpole Players will be holding our weekly meetings for Readings on the Walpole Common. These readings are not performances, rather simply reading through an assortment of scripts to choose one or more for another outdoor staged reading later in the summer. Anyone and everyone is invited to join us as a participant, as these readings are not meant to have an audience. This is a great way to discover your inner thespian! We will meet near the Bandstand. Please bring a lawn chair, water bottle, and a mask just in case one is needed.
